Cheap and Easy Holiday Décor Ideas

Festive decorations can make a Virginia Beach rental home feel cozy for the holidays. And the best thing is that holiday décor doesn’t need to be elaborate or costly. In reality, with just a few essential materials and some creativity, you can make inexpensive and easy holiday décor items for your home. In addition, we have selected some of our favorite holiday décor do-it-yourself projects on a budget.

Flannel It Up

A couple of things can warm up cold winter nights like flannel sheets, blankets, and pillows. Simply changing your regular sheets for a set made of warm flannel can provide a new level of comfort for your home. It is also a great idea to put flannel throw pillows around the house for a quick uplift. If storage space is a problem, think about making or buying seasonal pillow covers. Pillow covers are easy to make and can be converted for new patterns once the holidays have ended.

Glass Jar Snow Globe

If you have big glass jars in your kitchen, you can use and convert them into holiday-themed decorations! Just fill the bottom of the jar with white sugar or flour, then top with model village houses, trees, and accessories. Tie a pretty strip around the rim, and you’ve now got a beautiful glass jar snow globe for your home.

Holiday Lanterns

Decorative lanterns are a beautiful year-round décor thing. Get yours prepared for the holidays by filling them with strings of lights or shiny ornaments. Tie a bright ribbon at the top for even more holiday cheer. You can use different sizes of lanterns for a dramatic effect. You may also assemble numerous string lanterns at the fireplace for immediate mood lighting or group lanterns filled with ornaments near an entryway.

Gingerbread House Advent

For a creative procedure to count down the days to Christmas, try making a gingerbread house advent for your shelf or mantel. You can buy or build simple little wooden or cardboard houses and then paint them to look like gingerbread. Or, if you feel motivated, make them out of real gingerbread! Do not forget to number them, and then put a small gift or treat underneath to make the holiday countdown twice as sweet.

Bird House Christmas Village

Another basic décor project uses small wooden birdhouses to create a charming Christmas village display. Using tiny unpainted birdhouses, decorate each one to look like a lovely holiday village. Put some imitation snow on each roof and some model village accessories for even more diminutive appeal. Lastly, hang a string of lights above your village to bring your display a warm and joyful feel.

Colorful Holiday Garland

If you like working with fabrics, consider making an easy and colorful felt garland for your home or Christmas tree. Using small strips of colorful felt, you simply tie them onto a long piece of twine and then place them somewhere. Use felt strips in your theme color, or go bold with a rainbow. Whatever you choose, you’re always making an attractive holiday decoration that you can use over and over again.
